Teacher at the Faculty of Lettere e Filososofia of the University of Bologna, he has dealt with the history of the book and of the book industry for many years.
He has published books on the history of the Italian book industry in 19th and 20th centuries and has edited historical catalogues of a number of publishing houses.
He is member of the board of the journal “Rara volumina”.
