The Fondazione Ranieri di Sorbello ETS is entrusted with the care of the Ranieri di Sorbello Library and the family archives, as well as the art collections belonging to the Ranieri di Sorbello family. These collections include prints, drawings, porcelain, silverware, embroidered textiles, paintings, furniture, and other miscellaneous objects. The Foundation’s activities take place mainly at Palazzo Sorbello in Perugia.
The Foundation is committed to curating and enhancing these art collections and making them accessible to a wide international audience through the House Museum experience. It is dedicated to preserving, conserving, and cataloguing the various sections of the Ranieri di Sorbello family art collection, while promoting broader awareness of them. The Foundation may also acquire additional objects that originally belonged to the collections or that are closely connected with them or with Palazzo Ranieri di Sorbello. It may organize both permanent and temporary exhibitions, publish catalogues, and contribute to exhibitions held by other institutions in Italy and abroad.
The purpose of the Foundation is to preserve and update the Library’s holdings, including through the acquisition of books or documents that enrich its areas of specialization. Another key objective is to keep the Library open to the public and accessible to the international scholarly community. To this end, the Foundation will catalogue and promote its collections, maintain a liberal access policy for qualified researchers, foster academic exchanges with institutions in Italy and abroad, and organize cultural events such as lectures and conferences. The Foundation may also award scholarships to support researchers in completing their projects and assist in the publication and dissemination of studies that are based in whole or in part on its library and archival holdings.
The Foundation will promote the study and dissemination of the life and works of Uguccione Ranieri di Sorbello (1906–1969) – scholar, writer, and senior State official in the field of international cultural relations – as well as of other significant members of the Ranieri di Sorbello family and related or historically connected families. To this end, it will reorganize and make available the family papers, support research, and publish and disseminate related works. The Foundation may also support research projects on topics related to the life and work of Uguccione Ranieri di Sorbello, including local and family history, Italy–U.S. relations, the development of European integration, as well as contemporary literary, cultural, and artistic issues, and studies in Italian and international economic history.
To achieve these goals, the Foundation will:
- take part in jointly funded research projects with other institutions that share similar aims;
- organize training courses at various levels on topics related to its cultural mission;
- promote publishing initiatives;
- organize conferences, seminars, and symposia on topics of national and international interest.
