The Ranieri di Sorbello Foundation ETS preserves a valuable collection of embroidered textiles, created using various techniques and originating from different time periods. The most significant section consists of embroideries from the “Ranieri di Sorbello Embroidery School,” active between 1904 and 1934, created by Marchioness Romeyne Robert Ranieri di Sorbello (1877–1951).
This prestigious female-led entrepreneurial initiative, founded at Villa del Pischiello (Passignano sul Trasimeno, PG), reinterpreted ancient techniques to develop original embroidery stitches, including the renowned “Punto Sorbello.”
The legacy of the School, along with Marchioness Romeyne’s personal items, was passed down to the family’s heirs and later donated to the Ranieri di Sorbello Foundation. The historical and cultural value of these artifacts was officially recognized by the Italian Ministry of Culture, which designated them as items of historical interest on September 26, 2014.
In accordance with Marchioness Romeyne’s wishes, the Ranieri di Sorbello Foundation has never granted, nor intends to grant in the future, authorization for the reproduction of the School’s works, stitches, or designs. Therefore, any creation made after the School’s closure is not attributable to the Foundation, which distances itself from their eventual reproduction.
