The study and promotion of Uguccione Ranieri di Sorbello (1906–1969) is one of the core missions of the Fondazione Ranieri di Sorbello. Since its inception, the Foundation has focused on preserving, analyzing, and disseminating Uguccione’s works through a wide array of initiatives, including historical and archival research, seminars, conferences, lectures, and exhibitions both in Italy and the United States. These activities are complemented by an active editorial program aimed not only at publishing his writings but also offering critical insights into his journalistic, historical, and literary output.
Among the major undertakings is the complete digitization of Uguccione Ranieri di Sorbello’s journalistic works, in both Italian and English, from the 1920s to 1969. This collection includes the full run of the newsletter The Italian Scene, and is accessible via the JStor platform.
Since 2022, the Foundation has been carrying out a project in collaboration with the Istituto di Storia dell’Umbria Contemporanea (ISUC) focused on digitizing and cataloging Uguccione’s research materials related to his seminal work Perugia della Bell’Epoca 1859–1914 (Volumnia, 1969), published posthumously.
The Fondazione Ranieri di Sorbello ETS, together with the Romeyne Robert and Uguccione Ranieri Foundation (USA), has established a research fellowship [INSERT LINK HERE] to support high-quality academic work on historical, political, economic, and cultural relations between Italy and the United States. The fellowship seeks to promote visibility and in-depth exploration of Italy–U.S. relations and cultural exchange. Honoring the legacy of Romeyne Robert and Uguccione Ranieri, the fellowship is open to researchers of any nationality working on topics related (but not limited) to:
- Political, social, and economic relations between Italy and the United States;
- Cultural diplomacy and the promotion of the Italian language and culture in the U.S.;
- Literary and artistic exchange between Italy and the U.S.;
- Women’s entrepreneurship and female empowerment through education.
