The role of the Allied forces in the liberation of Italy—particularly in Umbria and Central Italy—is one of the Foundation’s main research themes. This focus is inspired by the figure of Uguccione Ranieri di Sorbello (1906–1969), who actively participated in the Allied campaign in Italy from 1943 to 1945, earning recognition for his courage and deep commitment to the cause of Liberation.
The Foundation’s library holds a substantial collection of historical materials related to the Liberation of Perugia, Umbria, and Italy between 1944 and 1945, including photographs, films, and copies of original documents. Its archives feature sources from American, British, and Italian repositories, including official records, military history studies, photographs, and audiovisual content, all made accessible through the ARCHIVIO ALLEATI and the Multimedia and Photographic Archive.
In addition, the Foundation has organized and continues to support exhibitions, lectures, publications, and other cultural events that explore the history of World War II, the advance of the Allied front in Umbria, and the crucial contribution of Allied forces to Italy’s liberation.
These initiatives preserve the memory of pivotal historical events and foster deeper reflection on Italy’s 20th-century history.
